Inside the Chart

By Bryndis Ogmundson

It’s February, the month of love. Right? Right? Am I wrong? Come on, don’t glare at me. It is the month of love. And I’ll prove it by telling you all about the great romantic music on the chart this month.

Holy Fuck
Holy Fuck... indeed.
Let’s start with some Holy Fuck. Huh, hey, fuck? God, I’m a three year old. Maybe five. I don’t think a three year old would know that word yet. I think the best thing I’ve read about Holy Fuck is this, “a shabbily dressed Kraftwerk.” Maybe that’s true, but it’s ok because the music isn’t shabby at all. Obviously you djs already know that or it wouldn’t be number four.

Death From Above 1979
Pink, the colour of love... and
Romance, Bloody, Romance
Romance anyone? Death From Above 1979 prove they can wine and dine us once, and then woo us into another date. Theremix album, Romance Bloody Romance, has been hanging around the top 50 like your ex-boyfriend hangs around in your bushes, er, or not. At any rate, it’s

In this crazy game of love, there is only one champion…The ConstantinesTournament Of Hearts is at number sixteen. Not champion per se, but a champion-like spot on the chart for sure. And they’ve been playing in the charts for a few months now.

The Maynards
Who wouldn't want to break out
the makeout with these cuties?
This month, The Maynards have it right. Who doesn’t want to Break Out The Makeout? I sure do…all the time. I have my suspicions that our Canadian djs do as well. Hence, they end up at number eighteen.

Sometimes though, love takes a sad path. That’s ok though. You know why that’s ok? Because the music that is inspired by a breakup can be truly amazing. It can also be wretched garbage, but when it’s great, it’s magical and you’d never want to be in love again. And so Port City’s Breakin Up Is Hard To Do ends up at number twenty-five.

Karyn Ellis
Karyn Ellis, helping us learn to love again.
But then you find someone like sexy acoustic goddess Karyn Ellis, and you think, “of course I want to love again!” And some have fallen in love with her latest, Hearts Fall. To be in love, and even better, to have an album at number fourty-nine.

I think it would be wise for all of us to keep our eyes and ears open to love this month. Make lots of squishy mix cds and give them to every minor interest you may have. Or make one super awesome one for the love of your life. Music can do wonders for your sex life.
