Nearly half-a-decade after his brilliant 2014 release, You’re Dead! …Flying Lotus (aka Steven Ellison) has released his sixth studio album, Flamagra; an afro-futurist masterpiece of miniatures.

Flamagra’s 27 tracks take the listener on a free-wheeling 67-minute voyage through the jazz-funk universe. The album’s theme seems to be the workings of the creative process, and its central metaphor was developed around the concept of “an eternal flame sitting on a hill” that FlyLo imagined once. The innovative L.A. producer brings this elemental “fire-spirit” to life in the album’s first single, a spoken-word track titled Fire Is Coming, featuring filmmaker David Lynch.
