Haviah Mighty had an eventful 2019. The Brampton rapper and producer released her first full-length album, 13th Floor, in May, and won the Polaris Music Prize four months later in September; the first hip hop artist to do so.

Mighty has been singing since she was a small child, and has released her music independently on mixtapes and EPs since 2009. She was a member of the celebrated Toronto hip hop supergroup The Sorority from its formation in March 2016 until it broke up in November 2019.

13th Floor reflects on Mighty’s experiences of racism in Canada as well as the inspiration and support that her close-knit family has provided her. 

The album was co-produced with Tribe Called Red’s 2oolman, and features collaborations with Clairmont The Second, Sean Leon, and family members Mighty Prynce (little brother) and Omega Mighty (her older sister, who also choreographs Haviah’s show and does her makeup).
