Daniel Romano's latest album Come Cry With Me steams through the record pile with a true traditional country sound full of bleeding heart ballads. With few embellishments in the recording the listener, is allowed to focus on the tales the songwriter tells. Not to say there isn't a load of great musical styles; Daniel utilizes the beautiful voices of Julie Doiron, Misha Bower, Tamara Lindeman and Dallas Good (The Sadies) who offer their soaring accompaniments and harmonies. Fiddle and pedal steel guitar fill out the sound, accomplishing a kind of sound that is so warm and intimate without being too extravagant. There is a prevalent eastern twang and slow cadence that pays homage to such country greats as Hank Snow, Ernest Tubbs and Eddie LeGere. The heartbreaking songs like "He Lets Her Memory Go (Wild)" and "Just Before The Moment" will make you shed a tear but there are also funnier numbers like "Chicken Bill" to round the album out. It's rare to find country albums like this now a days but when Romano comes around expect a humdinger!
