Manitoba born songwriter Mark Berube has released a four-track Tailored to Fit EP, a preview to his new album, June in Siberia due out in 2011. Berube’s last two full-length albums barely fed those looking for more of this musically gifted, talented songwriter, individual that calls Montreal home.
No stranger to touring that has now aid in amassing a huge following after being nominated for Best Solo Roots Album at the Western Canada Music Awards in 2008. Performing at top drawer venues like Paris’ Olympia in 2009 and being dubbed the “act to discover” at Paleo gave Mark the opportunity to shine as the opening act for The Cranberries in Geneva.
The constant throughout the entire EP is Berube’s true to form characteristics of incredibly powerful soaring vocals with his unforgettable voice accompanied by stellar piano playing and instrumental performances. The track that really added me to the Berube fan club was an incredible cover of Leonard Cohen’s First We Take Manhattan. Not only does Berube give his listeners a treat with his first cover song, but also adds two live tracks: Yesterday’s Halo and Yobo Mama, recorded live in Victoriaville, Que., in June 2010.
If this absolutely delectable Tailored to Fit EP is any indication of the forthcoming full length CD, you have something to look forward to when June in Siberia hits the shelves in 2011.
